Governor DeWine Visits Hamilton Elementary

Today, Hamilton Elementary School had the tremendous honor of welcoming Ohio Governor Mike DeWine, First Lady Fran DeWine, Director of the Ohio Department of Education and Workforce Stephen Dackin, and State Senator Hearcel Craig for a special visit celebrating the school’s commitment to literacy.

The visit began with a roundtable discussion featuring Governor DeWine, state leaders, and several key members of our district team who have played an integral role in implementing the Science of Reading at Hamilton Elementary. Participants included Principal Tyler Rush, Superintendent Mark Tyler, Deputy Superintendent Josh Conley, Chief Academic Officer Emily Jablonka, Instructional Coach Katie Forrest, School Psychologist Jessica Sparks, along with classroom teacher Nancy Gibson.

Following the discussion, guests had the opportunity to observe an engaging in-person literacy lesson led by 2nd grade teacher Nancy Gibson. Her students demonstrated firsthand the impact of research-based reading instruction in action.

We are proud to share that Hamilton Elementary was presented with the Governor’s Science of Reading Award in recognition of this important work. Congratulations to our students, staff, and school community on this well-deserved honor.
