Communities in Schools Site Coordinator
ViewHamilton Local Schools
Working with the i3 College and Career Expansion Grant team from Columbus State, I negotiate how we use the nearly $350,000 in goods and services we receive each year. Recently, I set our sights on an addition this school year to our high school team that I know will benefit so many students--AT NO COST TO US.
Normally Communities in Schools (CIS) provides a Site Coordinator to a school at a significant cost to the district. Knowing how valuable a CIS person can be to students and staff, I wasn't about to miss the opportunity to bring a CIS person into the building. Essentially, a CIS Site Coordinator establishes valuable relationships with students who have any academic obstacle in front of them and connects students and even families with resources and help that can improve the student's performance in school.
Last fall we interviewed candidates for this important position. Our team included a teacher, the principal, and district administration. We truly believe we chose an amazing person and we introduced Brittany Price to the staff on October 13. She began working directly with students and their families in early November.
Read below to see how Communities in Schools describes the Site Coordinator role followed by a link to the CIS website.

The Site Coordinator ensures that all the needs of children are met so that when students are in the classroom, they are ready to learn—and teachers can focus on teaching. Integrated student supports promote the students academic success by developing, securing and coordinating services that target academic and non academic barriers to student achievement.

Communities In Schools positions a dedicated staff member—a school-based site coordinator—inside partner schools. The site coordinator works with school staff to identify students at risk of dropping out, address the individual needs of each student and remove the barriers preventing student success. By leveraging relationships with local businesses, social service agencies, health care providers, and parent and volunteer organizations, needed resources are delivered to students in a cost-effective manner. Whether it’s counseling, tutoring, eyeglasses, food or a safe place to be after school, when these needs are met, students can concentrate on learning.

Communities In Schools of Central Ohio is skilled in and proud to serve the communities most vulnerable students.
