It's National School Psychology Awareness Week (Nov. 9-13, 2020)
Housed in the Office of Special Education, you will find specialized employees known as related services that include Speech-Language Pathologists, Occupational Therapists, Physical Therapists, and School Psychologists who work very hard each day to support students and provide needed resources to help them reach their full potential. We are featuring our School Psychologists this week as their national organization, the National Association of School Psychologists (NASP), celebrates National School Psychology Week.

According to the Ohio Department of Education, school psychologists provide direct support and interventions to students, families, and other school professionals; work with school administrators to improve school-wide practices and policies; and collaborate with community providers to coordinate needed services.

Some examples of School Psychologist training includes:
  1. Conducting psychological and academic assessments and collect and interpret student classroom data;
  2. Support teachers in providing individualized instruction and interventions and progress monitoring;
  3. Promote positive student and classroom behavior while encouraging student engagement;
  4. Improve students' development, including social skills, communication, and social-emotional learning.
If you would like to learn more about all of the things our school psychologists do, visit the Ohio Department of Education website or the National Association of School Psychologists online.

We would like to take this opportunity to thank our team of school psychologists for all that they do on a daily basis to support the students, families, and professionals in our district.

So, to Ashley Riekofski, Jessica Sparks, and Danell Hernandez, as we highlight your profession this week, we say "Thank You" for all you do in your position as school psychologists in the Hamilton Local School District.
