Superintendent Tyler: New District Mission Focuses On Students and Community
Several months ago, we surveyed all of you and asked for input on a new mission statement. We wanted to have a statement that spoke to our focus areas on educating the whole child and creating career pathways. We have had many great slogans throughout the years in the school system such as Ranger Pride, Ranger Nation, We Are HT and, my personal favorite, Mr. Kallner’s Once a Ranger, Always a Ranger. Slogans such as these are not going anywhere. What we needed is something clear and concise that lets everyone know who we are and what we’re about.

We received hundreds of suggestions. Many of you referenced our three E’s (enlist, enroll, employ). Many of you did a play on words with RANGERS or HT. It was also common to see words such as family, love, caring, respectful, responsible and team. We believe that the mission statement we chose encompasses all of these ideas. A few weeks ago, when we were finalizing this decision, I had no idea how relevant it would be during the weeks to come. Our new district mission statement is EVERY RANGER • EVERY REASON • EVERY DAY.

EVERY RANGER. This phrase is meant to include everyone—every student, every staff member, every graduate and every community member. All of us working together.

EVERY REASON. We actually went back and forth on this phrase for a while and oddly, under the current circumstances, this is the phrase that is most applicable. The primary focus of every school system is the academic achievement of all students. I consistently praise our staff and, by extension, our community for taking on the challenge of doing even more. We educate the whole child. Whatever the need, whatever the issue, whatever the REASON we are going to work together and do the best we can for each other. Never before has this been more obvious than it is right now. I would like to thank everyone who has been so generous and selfless in helping us maintain services for our students during this difficult time.

EVERY DAY. This is self-explanatory, but I would like to highlight all of the volunteers who have given up their time, especially those who have volunteered to give up their spring break to help us continue to provide breakfast and lunch to our students.

I had hoped to unveil this new mission statement under better circumstances, perhaps at some large community gathering such as graduation or at a football game. Under the circumstances when so many Rangers are pitching in to help one another, now is the time.

EVERY RANGER • EVERY REASON • EVERY DAY

Thank you and Go Rangers!

Sincerely,

Mark Tyler
