Operations Update - Monday, March 16, 2020
This message is about free student meals that begin tomorrow and about our academic plans during Governor DeWine’s required three-week closure of all schools.

Beginning at 11:00 a.m. tomorrow, Tuesday, March 17th, we will be offering free meals in a drive-up “grab and go” delivery to those who have signed up through the Google Form on our website. You can find the form easily on our district and school homepages.

Then tomorrow, those who have signed up can drive through the high school driveway once from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. and receive prepared meals for each student who was registered through the online form.

If you still want to sign your children up to receivce this service, complete and submit the online form by the end of the day on Tuesday, March 17, 2020.

If you know parents who don't have access to Internet, please let them know that they can call their child’s school directly at 614-491-8044 and leave a detailed message including (name, phone number, email address, and the names and schools for each school-aged child) for the secretaries to sign-up their student to receive meals.

This program is open to all Hamilton Local Schools students who need meals during this break, but we need parents to sign-up for this service, in order to have a proper student count because we want to make certain we are making enough meals for everyone who needs one.

We want to thank everyone for their patience as we work to continue to provide important resources for our students during this unprecedented time. Things are changing daily and we are trying to adapt and do our best to work with all of our families.

Regarding our academic plans during the mandatory closure, teachers and administrators are preparing for three phases.

In Phase 1 (which is the week of March 17 through March 27) learning resources are available on our district website. Go to hlsd.org and search “Try this.”

In Phase 2 (which is the week after spring break, March 30 through April 3) teachers will post content in Google Classrooms where students can login via smartphone or other device to engage with videos and virtual lessons their teachers have posted. Students can receive feedback for the work they complete in their Google Classrooms. Students in grades K-1 will have virtual classrooms setup and linked on the Hamilton Elementary School Homepage. Students in grades 2-6 will need classroom codes that will be posted on the front page of our hlsd.org website. Grades 7-12 students already will be enrolled in the teachers’ classes. Anyone who needs paper versions of lessons should call the building and leave a detailed message including the child’s full name and grade.

Please Note: If you don't have a computer in your home, but you have a gaming console...Google Classroom also works on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One browsers.

In Phase 3 (which would be needed if Governor DeWine extends the required closure further into April or May) students would continue their work in the Google Classrooms and receive teacher feedback. The district is considering how devices could be loaned to district households with Hamilton students if the closure extends beyond April 3.

We will continue to update you as we have new information related to our district operation.
