Thompson Selected as District's Athletic Director

Mr. Matt Thompson, current Assistant Principal at Hamilton Middle School, has been named the new Athletic Director for Hamilton Local School District during the Board of Education Meeting on Monday, May 16, 2022.. He will assume full responsibilities on August 1, 2022.


“Mr. Thompson is a long time administrator, and spent many years in our athletic department as a varsity coach,” HLSD Superintendent Mark Tyler explained. “Combine Mr. Thompson’s athletic experience with his years of experience as an assistant principal. He was the perfect choice to fill the athletic director role.”


Mr.Thompson began working at HLSD in 1993. He spent many years as a physical education teacher, beginning at Hamilton Elementary school and moving to Hamilton Township High School in 1995. In 2011, Thompson was named Dean of Students at HTHS, and in 2014 he moved over to Hamilton Middle School as Assistant Principal. 


Mr. Thompson has an undergraduate degree from The Ohio State University, and a Master’s Degree from Ashland University. 

 

“I truly appreciate the opportunity to be Hamilton Township's next Athletic Director and look forward to working with our coaches, teachers, parents and students to continue the traditions that have been established here,” says Matt Thompson. “It has always been a dream of mine to someday follow in my father's footsteps and become an Athletic Director and now that dream is becoming a reality. Let's Go Rangers!”

 

Mr. Thompson’s athletic background and dedication to the district makes him a great fit as the Athletic Director for Hamilton Local Schools.
