The Hamilton Township boys soccer team completed a remarkable turnaround this season, winning the Mid-State League Buckeye Division championship for the first time since 2016.
This year’s squad, anchored by a core of sophomores with strong junior and senior leadership, finished the season with a 10-5-3 record—a stark improvement from last year’s two-win campaign. The team’s resurgence earned multiple players postseason league honors, and the coaching staff of Coach Sutherland, Coach Pickens, and Coach Mathews could not be more thrilled for 37 members of this years’ team.
The title is the fourth in school history and the third since Coach Sutherland joined the program in 2014. Reflecting on the achievement, Coach Sutherland praised the team’s dedication and the community support that fueled their success. "Our families, staff, and students were incredible this year," he said. "Our guys worked so hard, starting with our first offseason meeting in January where we set our goal: 'One Team. One Goal. #4,' with #4 representing our fourth league championship. It can’t be understated how impressive it is to dedicate so much time and energy to a goal, and then collectively share the joy once that goal is achieved. I can’t thank our staff enough for their commitment to developing these young men into not just great athletes, but great individuals.”
With a sophomore-heavy roster and a bright future ahead, the Rangers have built a strong foundation for sustained success and want to thank the Senior class that is leaving for all of the contributions they have made to the program over the last 4 years. This championship not only marks the program’s return to prominence but hopefully sets the stage for even more accomplishments in the years to come as Coach Mathews and the JV team also finished the year 8-1 and undefeated in league play.
Congratulations to the Ranger Boys Soccer team on their 2024 Mid-State League Buckeye Division championship!
