Hamilton Local School District Partners with Columbus Crew's "Stay in the Game" Initiative to Combat Chronic Absenteeism

The Hamilton Local School District is excited to announce its partnership with the Columbus Crew as part of the "Stay in the Game! Keep Learning, Every Day" Network, a statewide initiative focused on promoting the importance of school attendance and reducing chronic absenteeism.

Chronic absenteeism is a critical issue affecting students across Ohio. A student is considered chronically absent when they miss as few as two days of school per month, potentially hindering their academic and social-emotional growth. The current rate of chronic absenteeism in Ohio is approximately 17 percent, meaning around 260,000 students are at risk of falling behind. Through this partnership, Hamilton Local Schools is joining the fight to curb absenteeism and ensure that every student has the opportunity to succeed.

With this collaboration, the district aims to create a school-going culture, address barriers to attendance, and promote student engagement.

The "Stay in the Game!" Network utilizes attendance data and feedback from families to design targeted interventions that improve attendance rates. Through personalized communication, such as postcards and robocalls, the initiative has been able to increase attendance by up to 8% in participating districts.

Hamilton Local Schools is dedicated to using this partnership to enhance its efforts in encouraging students to attend school regularly. With the support of the Columbus Crew and the resources provided by the "Stay in the Game!" network, Hamilton Local Schools will focus on uncovering and reducing common attendance barriers while motivating students to thrive in their educational environments.

We will have a table set up at tonight’s home football game where individuals are able to pick up “Stay in the Game!” yard signs and player posters to assist with our district’s efforts.
