HLSD Names New Head Coaches for Girls and Boys Basketball Teams

Hamilton Local Schools is pleased to announce the selection of two new head coaches for the district basketball programs.

Mr. James (Jimmy) Wooten has been named Head Varsity Girls Basketball Coach.

“We are excited to bring in Coach James Wooten! He is very familiar with a majority of the girls in our basketball program, as he has coached many of them through basketball youth programs,” says Athletic Director, Matt Thompson. “James is a Hamilton Township graduate, community member and has coached many of our student-athletes in our various youth programs.”

James had a great basketball career during his time as a student at HTHS. He received multiple league, and district honors, as well as being a 3 year Varsity letterman. After graduating from high school, Wooten played basketball for Kentucky Christian University. During his time there he received all district honorable mention, 2nd team district honors, and All-American honorable mention.

Wooten not only spends his time coaching in the communities youth programs, but he has also coached in the Hamilton Middle School basketball program.

Mr. Brenden Mathews has been named Head Varsity Boys Basketball Coach.

“Coach Brenden Mathews played college basketball at Muskingum University and has five years experience teaching and coaching at Maysville Local School District,” says Athletic Director, Matt Thompson. “While speaking with Coach Mathews it is very apparent he will bring a ton of energy and enthusiasm to our boys basketball program.”

Brenden grew up down the road from HLSD and graduated from Grove City High School. After high school he went on to play basketball at Muskingum University where he received a Bachelor of Arts in Special Education.

After graduating from Muskingum University, Mathews began working for Maysville Local School District in Zanesville as an Intervention Specialist at the high school. During his time with Maysville he coached multiple sports including track, football, baseball, and basketball. During his time coaching at Maysville, he helped develop a competitive culture within the team, and focused on team building.

HLSD is excited to welcome both coaches that have such a passion for basketball to our coaching staff! We look forward to seeing what these coaches accomplish this next school year.

The district will coordinate an opportunity for the players and community to meet with both coaches in the very near future.
