8th grade science students have been busy learning about non-contact forces. During this specific lab, students were testing the strength of the magnetic force at the poles compared to the center of the bar magnet. While trying to attract as many paperclips as possible, students quickly learned that the magnetic poles have a much stronger force of attraction compared to the center of the bar magnet. Some groups got up to 16 paper clips to attract to the poles of their magnet! Students also learned that like magnetic poles repel one another while opposite magnetic poles attract.
