Frequently Asked Questions: Intentional Technology Initiative
Why is the high school changing its Chromebook program?
Our goal is to increase student engagement by ensuring technology is used intentionally to support instruction. Teachers will continue using Chromebooks every day when technology enhances learning while creating more opportunities for face-to-face discussion, collaboration, and hands-on learning without digital background noise.
Will my child still use a Chromebook every day?
Yes. Every instructional classroom has a permanently assigned Chromebook cart. Students will continue using Chromebooks throughout the school day whenever instruction requires technology.
Will students use the same Chromebook?
Yes. Teachers will assign each student a numbered Chromebook in their classroom that corresponds to their seating arrangement. Students will use the same Chromebook every day while in that class. The Chromebook remains securely in the classroom.
What happens to homework?
Required homework will not depend on bringing home a district Chromebook. Students may access their Google Workspace account and saved files from any internet-connected device using a standard web browser.
What if my child needs a Chromebook at home?
Students may check out a district Chromebook from the High School Library on a short-term basis (ranging from 24 hours to one week) for educational needs such as long-term projects, college applications, or other approved purposes.
Will students still use Google Classroom?
Yes. Google Classroom, Google Workspace, online assessments, research, instructional software, and digital projects remain an integral part of classroom instruction.
What about AP and CCP courses?
Teachers will continue using technology that best supports instruction. Students in AP or CCP courses with a demonstrated instructional need may request approval through building administration to use an approved personal device on our secure student network.
