Public Participation Policy for Board Meetings
If your participation may require Board action or you would like to request Board action during your presentation please refer to Board Policy BDDH (Also KD) for requirements (see below).
You will need to compete the public participation form (also linked below) and submit it to the Office of the Superintendent at least seven days prior to the Board meeting in which you would like to present.
If your comments are not going to request an action by the Board of Education, you do not have to submit your request to the Office of the Superintendent. You will have the opportunity to sign-in for "Public Participation" once you arrive to the board meeting chamber by completing and submitting the form below.

Current Board Members
Walley Obert, Member

Mr. Obert is in the second year of his 3rd stint as a member of our Board of Education. He was voted by his peers to serve as Board President during the 2024 -2026 calendar year. Walley previously served eight years as a board member from Jan. 1, 2010 - Dec. 31, 2017.
Mr. Obert graduated from South High School and worked as a Journeyman Wireman while being a member of Electrical Union IBEW Local 683. He and his wife Pamela have had six children graduate from HTHS, and seven great-grandchildren currently enrolled throughout our district.
Maria Varney, Vice President

Mrs. Varney, currently in her second year of her first term on the board, resides in Obetz with her husband and two dogs, Josie and Birdie. A proud graduate of Franklin Heights High School, Maria brings 16 years of experience in education to her role. She spent her first 8 years with Hamilton Local Schools before transitioning to Groveport Madison where she currently serves as the EMIS/Data Coordinator.
In this role, Maria skillfully coordinates and manages educational data systems, ensuring effective implementation and informed decision-making.
Beyond her professional endeavors, Maria finds joy in photography and dedicates time to volunteering with the Ranger football team. Her commitment extends to fostering community understanding by actively engaging with parents, teachers, students, and the community.
Kara Gibbs, Member

Mrs. Gibbs is a proud, lifelong member of the Hamilton Local community and a graduate of Hamilton Township, along with her husband, Todd. Ranger Pride runs deep in her family. Three of her four daughters, Kaylee, Emilee, and Ashlee, are Hamilton Local graduates, and her youngest daughter, Izzee, is currently a freshman.
Mrs. Gibbs works alongside her family in their real estate and construction business, where she has gained valuable experience in teamwork, communication, and service to others. She has also dedicated many years to volunteering within the community, supporting Hamilton athletics, including volleyball, softball, and football.
As a member of the Hamilton Local School Board, Mrs. Gibbs is committed to ensuring that Hamilton continues to grow and evolve with the times while honoring the traditions that make the district special. She is passionate about helping every child succeed and is dedicated to making sure all students have the resources, support, and opportunities they need to become the best versions of themselves.
Terri Parks, Member

Ms. Parks is serving in her third year on the Hamilton Local School District Board of Education and is in the first year of her first elected term. Ms. Parks has seen two sons graduate from Hamilton Local Schools and has one daughter who currently attends Hamilton Township High School.
She has spent several years volunteering for the Hamilton Local School District and has been an active participant in all things academic and athletic. Ms. Parks serves as a Medicaid Health Systems Administrator and Specialist at the Ohio Department of Medicaid in Columbus. Her roles involved planning, evaluating, and directing activities related to Medicaid health systems, ensuring compliance with state and federal regulations, and collaborating with stakeholders to enhance program effectiveness. Ms. Parks holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology with a minor in Sociology from the University of Illinois at Chicago, as well as an Associate of Liberal Arts degree from Truman College. She is also a certified Mental Health First Aid Instructor.
David Schutte, President

Mr. Schutte began serving on our Board of Education in January 1998. He is currently in the first year of his eighth term and was voted by his peers to serve as Board President during the 2026 and 2027 calendar year. He and his wife Kim, along with their children Michael, Matthew, and Nicole, are all Hamilton Township High School graduates.
Mr. Schutte now has grandchildren attending the district. David recently retired from his day job following a 35-year career with YRC Worldwide.
