Many HTHS students excel during Ohio Model United Nations program

Please congratulate all of our Ohio Model United Nations (OMUN) students for their efforts and hard work over the past few months leading up to the program. We are very proud of the achievements of all of our participants.

This year, Joey Streets, Quahhar Fletcher and JaJuan Hopkins served as Council officers on the Leadership Team. These seniors, along with the other officers from the other participating schools, train for many months to run the entire three-day event. Our three officers were well-spoken and displayed positive leadership.

HTHS did have some stand-out awards:  The country of Solomon Islands, consisting of Jessica Frey, Katie Speak, Ashalee Chaples, Paris Brown, Alexa Thankeo, Maddie Rollins, Katie Hines, Payton Peoples and Jazlyn Simon, won an outstanding resolution award for their topic B.I.S.H. (Bringing Internet to Schools and Homes).

Their resolution focused on creating a program to make internet and technology devices accessible for students in the Solomon Islands and to spread their program world-wide. Our other country participants worked hard in debate and in their talent showcases. Marcus McKinley won the award for writing an essay about World Citizenship. Joelle Smith won an Outstanding Leadership award.

HTHS continues to thrive in the area of community service. As part of the OMUN organization, the group is partnered with a school in Nigeria and funded a project titled, iOpen. During the three-day event, the schools raised over $1,700 to send to the school in Nigeria. HTHS won a runner-up service award for our contribution and participation.

The following students won an elected Council Office to serve on the Leadership Team for next year at OMUN:

Joelle Smith:  Council President
Curtis Groce:  Council President
Kasiey Novotini: Council Vice-President
Matt Horne:  Council Vice-President
Dakota Stevens:  Council Vice-President
Kendra Dalton:  Council Vice-President

We want to congratulate our students on their leadership, participation, and excellent behavior in representing our district and the community at this statewide event.
