How Do Eastland-Fairfield Career & Technical Schools Handle Delays, Closures, and Early Releases

The following guidelines are intended to help with questions generated by weather or other situations that alter the regular school day schedule at Eastland-Fairfield Career & Technical Schools presented by ECC/FCC Superintendent Bonnie Hopkins.

Weather/Other Emergency Closings
Eastland-Fairfield will close when a majority of our associate schools close or when associate school closings involve a majority of our student population. If the associate school is closed and parents feel it is unsafe to send their students to the career centers, a phone call is unnecessary – the student will be excused.

Delayed Start
When Eastland and Fairfield are on a delay:
•    The shuttle between ECC and FCC will be delayed one or two hours.
•    Associate schools that are not on delay may deliver bused students at the regular time. We will house those students until classes begin.

If the associate school is delayed, students are required to be at ECC and FCC at the time their home school would start, i.e. for a two hour delay, if the home school normally starts at 7:30, the students should be at ECC and FCC by 9:30.

When associate schools are delayed, and ECC and FCC are not, some associate schools transport students to the career centers while others follow our schedule and bus students to the career centers in time to catch the shuttle. We have told students that transportation is the responsibility of their associate school, and in the case of inclement weather, students should contact their local transportation department if they have questions.

Early Release
As is the case with a closing, we base our decision on what our associate schools are doing. When a significant number of associate schools announce an early release, we will try to secure shuttle drivers so we can transport shuttle students (between ECC and FCC) to their normal pick-up location.

Associate schools that are not closing early do not need to feel pressured to pick students up early. We will house students until the regular pick-up time if associate schools are unable to send a bus early.

When Associate schools release early, we will release student drivers from that home school after the bus students have been picked up.

When Eastland-Fairfield is releasing early, we will release student drivers after the shuttle buses (between ECC and FCC) have completed their run. We will house bus riders until associate schools can get a bus to our centers.
