Mrs. Thomas
ViewHamilton Local Schools
Welcome to the 2019/2020 School Year!  I am looking forward to a tremendous year this year.
My name is Mrs. Thomas and I will be your child's 6th Grade Science teacher this year.
Please feel free to contact me anytime throughout the year if questions or concerns should arise.  My email is sthomas@hlsd.org and the school's phone number is 491-8044 and my extension is 1655.

6th Grade Policies and Procedures

AGENDA BOOK - This is available on the school website.  There will be no hard copies given out this year.l

HOMEWORK POLICY - Homework is expected to be turned in the day that it is due, or it will be counted as a zero.  The only exception to this policy would be because of an absence.

ABSENCES - It is your child’s responsibility to ask the teacher for any missing work.  If your child is absent from school for ONE DAY, your child will be permitted to have ONE EXTRA DAY to make-up the work. If your child was absent for TWO DAY, he/she will be permitted TWO EXTRA DAYS to complete the work. Your child will be permitted the same amount of days to complete the missing assignments as your child was absent.

 6th Grade Discipline Plan

A copy of this information will be sent home on the first day of school.

·     When a student reaches 5 recess detentions in a nine week period, an afterschool detention will be given.

·     After a student receives 1 additional recess detention, the student will then be assigned a recess detention and be required to conference with Mrs. Tadak.

The next step on the discipline plan would result in the student receiving an extended day detention.

·     After a student receives an extended day, the student will then be referred to the office each time a discipline issue occurs after being given an extended day.

Additional Notes

·     If your child skips their recess detention, they will be given an after school detention.

·     You will only receive notification from a teacher when your child receives an after school detention or extended day.

·     Please make sure you ask your child each day if they have received a recess detention in order to avoid any confusion.

·     This plan will start over each nine weeks.

This month's charity

Please also remember to send in your Campbell's soup labels and your boxtops to help our school!
TThis month’s community service project is the Make-A-Wish Foundation. Make-A-Wish is an organization that raises funds to grant wishes to children with critical medical conditions. We will be selling stars for $1 during the month of March. The grade that sells the most stars will get to have a pajama day! The classroom that raises the most money will receive Make-A-Wish bracelets and an extra recess/free period at the end of the year.

In addition, we will also be collecting grocery bags for the Mid-Ohio foodbank throughout the year.

Due to the state test being online and many of our district assessments being online, each child needs their own pair of headphones to have available to them. Your student needs to bring a pair of earbuds or small headphones to school to leave at school for the rest of the year (if they haven't already). The assessments / online work could possibly have video components or audio bits that students need to listen to and will not be able to do this unless they have headphones to use.

Please send in a pair of earbuds or small sized headphones as soon as possible so your student will not miss out on showing what they know and completing their work. This was an item that was requested on the school supply list at the beginning of the year. The headphones will be kept in Mrs. Bassett's classroom and they will be returned at the end of the school year.
