English Language Arts/Wicki

Thank you for visiting Mrs. Holowicki's Reading page!  Please check back for current news and reading tips!  I am confident that my students will have an awesome 2019-2020 school year!

Hello Parents and Students!

Welcome to English Language Arts!  We are navigating online learning together right now and I appreciate your patience. While we are out of school, if you have any questions, please feel free to call or email. I can still receive both while working at home: egartland@hlsd.org or 614-491-8044 ext. 1657
For the week of March 17th: Go to our district website and in the search bar in the top right corner, type in "Try This."  The first result is a list of links that students can use to practice skills they have already learned. In addition to those links, feel free to check out the links on the right side of the page for more activities and practice.
For the week of March 23rd: This is our official spring break. Check back next week for more resources or check out the links posted on the side of this page for more activities.
For the week of March 30th: Log into  6th grade Google Classroom! The code to join the classroom is: lkpk524. There will be review activities for each subject area for each day of the week for you to try.
Things to know...

ABSENCES - It is the student's responsibility to make up absent work. For every day absent, students get 1 extra to make up work.

For Example: 1 day absent- 1 extra day to make up assignments.

2 days absent- 2 extra days to make up assignments.

6th Grade Behavior Policy: We expect that all 6th grade students will have an awesome year. However, the following plan will be in place each quarter for behavior.

First 4 offenses- RECESS DETENTION
5th offense- After-School Detention
6th offense- Recess and student-conference with principal
7th offense- EXTENDED DAY
*Any offense after that will result in an office-level referral.
Note- Teachers may also assign after-school detentions/extended days/office-level referrals for behavior when necessary.
6th Grade Homework Policy
Teachers often review homework problems the day it is due in class. Please be sure to turn it in on time. If you do not turn it in on time this year, it will/may not be accepted for credit. (Unless a student is absent.)
**Please save and continue to bring in BOX TOPS! We will be collecting them all year long.

Dear Parents and Guardians,

Sixth grade students are expected to have good behavior every day at school.  Therefore, beginning on February 18th, we will be using the following behavior plan in order for students to be able to attend the high school play, Shrek- The Musical.  The play will take place on March 4th.  Permission slips will be sent home with all students.

-2 recess detentions- NO PLAY

-After-School Detention/Extended Day/Anything beyond- NO PLAY

- I will be using the Remind (Remind app - you can download it for your phone or just receive texts) for our parents to receive updates about homework, tests, etc. Please sign up following the directions students brought home, OR simply text our class code @cd7gf2hd to the number 81010 OR by clicking here to sign up!
