French 3

1.     All students are expected to be respectful to each-other at all times.  This includes:

a.     No talking while I, or another student is speaking.

b.     Raising hands to ask a question.

c.     Treat others as you would want to be treated.

d.     Foul language, rudeness, or general disrespect for others will NOT be tolerated.

2.     We will begin the year with a more open policy on cell phone use.  I will allow you to use your cell phone as a reference, so that you can easily look-up the meaning of a word.  If this policy begins to be abused, we will go back to paper dictionaries only.

3.     Students are expected to be in their seats when the bell rings for the beginning of class.  At the end of class, I will dismiss you, NOT the bell.

4.     If students are absent, it is up to them to collect their work, and catch-up with the rest of the class.  I will provide all make-up work without hesitating, but I will not ‘hound’ students to turn it in.  Each student will have as many days to make up their work as days of class that were missed.  (however, exceptions can be made)  Please let me know as far in advance as possible if you are planning on being absent!

5.    If a student chooses to break a school or classroom rule in my class, the disciplinary actions will follow those listed in the Student Handbook.

6.    Homework is to be completed on-time.  I will not assign homework every day, but it is often necessary.  Each grading period will have a ‘homework grade’ that is dependent on how many assignments were successfully completed and turned in.  If homework is not turned in on the due date, the student will receive a 0.

7.     Participation is necessary in class, in order to ensure that my students can speak and/or understand French.  In French 3, the emphasis will be on speaking French at all times.  To reach this goal, we will have a daily speaking grade out of 5 points.  If you make an effort to speak in French, you will receive all 5 points.  If you do not participate, or you attempt to speak only in English, you will receive 0 points.

8.     The amount of homework points included in a grading period will vary, there will always be 5 points per day for speaking, and there will also be various projects or tests/quizzes throughout the grading period.  The tests/quizzes will also vary in points, but will surely be worth more than the homework grades.  In this class, we will also have a larger focus on the assessment grades.  The grading scale is listed in the Student Handbook.

9.     For this class, you must be organized.  At the very least, you should come to class each day with a French-only binder, notebook paper, workbook, and a writing utensil.  Repeatedly coming to class unprepared will result in a detention.

10. If you need extra help in class, please do not hesitate to ask me.  I will have struggling students meet with me during Advisory Period, but if you need additional help we can set up a tutoring schedule.  Also, if you have any questions or comments about class, please do not hesitate to contact me!

11. This year, I am adding on a new element to the higher-level classes.  We will decide as a class whether you would like to maintain your own blog, completely in French, or if you would like to communicate with each-other via Edmodo.  Either way, you will be required to make one blog post/Edmodo post per week, as well as respond to those of your classmates/teacher.  All posting will be done in French, in order to strengthen our individual vocabularies.

1 1 There is also a possibility that we will be conducting French lessons at the preschool throughout the year.  If this is the case, you will be given a grade for each day that we go to the preschool.  If you are absent, you will miss out on your daily grade.
